Reviewed by Matthew Arbab, Managing Director, Aire One Heating & Cooling

Short answer: call Aire One Heating & Cooling at 310-HEAT (310-4328), or 416-460-5300. The line is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and a real person answers, not an answering machine. Aire One is licensed and insured, has been serving Ontario since 1990, and is headquartered right here at 2800 John Street in Markham, so a technician can be dispatched to your home fast. Below is exactly what to do from the moment the heat goes out.

Call This Number, Any Hour

When your furnace fails on a cold Markham night, you do not want a voicemail box. Aire One runs a genuine 24-hour emergency line as a family business, and operators are standing by to dispatch a technician promptly:

Emergency line: 310-HEAT (310-4328). Open 24 hours, every day, answered by a real person.

Main office: 416-460-5300. The Markham head office at 2800 John Street, Unit 9.

What to have ready. Your address, a quick description of what the furnace is doing or not doing, and any noises, smells or error lights you have noticed. It helps the technician arrive prepared.

310-HEATThe number to call, 24 hours a day

Real PersonA live operator answers, not a machine

Since 1990Licensed and insured, serving Ontario

Stay Safe and Warm While You Wait

Once help is on the way, a few simple steps keep your household safe and comfortable until the technician arrives:

If you smell gas, leave now. Do not flip switches or search for the source. Get everyone outside and call your gas provider or 911, then call for repair from a safe distance.

Suspect carbon monoxide? Get out. If a CO alarm sounds, or anyone feels dizzy, nauseous or has a headache, leave the home and call for help. A cracked heat exchanger can release CO.

Keep the heat you have. Close doors to unused rooms, keep exterior doors shut, and layer up with blankets and warm clothing.

Heat safely. Use only proper space heaters with room to breathe around them. Never use an oven, stovetop or barbecue to heat the home.

Do not keep resetting the furnace. Repeatedly restarting a furnace that keeps failing can make the problem worse. Leave it off and wait for the technician.

Not sure yet whether it is a true emergency, or want to try a couple of safe checks first? Our full Markham furnace repair guide walks through the warning signs and the simple things to check before you call.

Fast Response, Honest Repair

Speed is only half of a good emergency furnace repair in Markham. When an Aire One technician arrives, they inspect the furnace to find the real cause, not just the symptom, then explain what is wrong and what it will cost before any work starts. Repairs are done by trained, bonded technicians using quality parts, so the fix holds and you are not calling again next week.

A real person on the phone, a trained technician at the door.

Because the trucks are stocked with common furnace parts, most repairs are completed on that first visit. And because dispatch runs around the clock, a furnace that quits on a Saturday night in Markham gets the same fast response as one that quits on a Tuesday morning.

Avoid the Next Emergency

The best emergency call is the one you never have to make. Most no-heat breakdowns build up from small faults a yearly tune-up would have caught. Once your heat is back on, ask about an Aire One maintenance plan so next winter does not start with a 2 AM phone call. As a family business, the goal is to keep you out of the cold in the first place.

We serve Markham and the surrounding communities, including Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Vaughan, Scarborough, North York and Toronto.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who do I call for emergency furnace repair in Markham?

Call Aire One Heating & Cooling at 310-HEAT (310-4328) or 416-460-5300. The line is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, a real person answers, and Aire One is licensed and insured, serving Ontario since 1990 from its Markham head office.

Is the emergency line answered by a real person?

Yes. As a family business, Aire One has live operators standing by around the clock, not an answering machine, so a technician can be dispatched promptly.

What should I do while I wait for the technician?

If you smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, leave the home and call your gas provider or 911 first. Otherwise, close off unused rooms, stay warm with blankets, use only safe space heaters, and do not keep resetting the furnace.

What does Aire One repair on an emergency call?

The 24-hour line covers furnaces and gas heating, heat pumps, boilers, water heaters and tankless units, and air conditioning.

How fast can a technician reach my home in Markham?

Aire One dispatches technicians electronically from its Markham head office at 2800 John Street, with stocked trucks so most repairs are completed on the first visit. Call 310-HEAT for the fastest response.

When you search "furnace repair near me" in the middle of a Markham cold snap, you do not want a directory of forty companies. You want one that answers, shows up, and actually fixes the problem. This guide does two things: it helps you catch furnace trouble before it becomes a 2 AM no-heat emergency, and it shows you what to look for in a repair company. Aire One Heating & Cooling is headquartered right here at 2800 John Street in Markham, we have been serving Ontario since 1990, and our emergency line runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Signs Your Furnace Needs Repair

Furnaces rarely die without warning. They usually complain first. If you notice any of these, book a repair before a small fault turns into a cold house full stop:

Climbing energy bills. A furnace losing efficiency burns more fuel to make the same heat. A sudden jump with no change in weather or usage points to a system working too hard.

Strange or loud noises. Banging, rattling, screeching or persistent clicking are not normal. They can signal a cracked heat exchanger, a failing blower motor or ignition trouble.

Unusual smells. A burning or musty odour that does not fade, or any smell of gas, needs attention now. If you smell gas, leave and call from outside.

Poor air quality. More dust, dryness or stuffiness than usual can mean the furnace or its filtration is no longer doing its job.

The furnace short cycles. If it switches on and off repeatedly without finishing a full heating cycle, something is forcing it to shut down early.

Cold spots around the home. Rooms that never quite warm up point to airflow, distribution or capacity problems.

It needs repairs often. A furnace that keeps breaking, especially an older one, is telling you something. Frequent fixes add up fast.

Any one of these is worth a call. Several together usually mean the furnace is near the end of a heating cycle it cannot finish on its own.

What to Check Before You Call

Some no-heat calls have a simple fix you can try safely in a minute. Before you book a technician, rule these out:

The thermostat. Confirm it is set to heat, the target temperature is above room temperature, and the batteries are fresh.

The breaker. A tripped breaker cuts power to the furnace. Reset it once. If it trips again, stop and call.

The furnace switch. The furnace has its own power switch that looks like a light switch nearby. Make sure it was not flipped off by accident.

The air filter. A filter clogged solid can choke airflow enough to shut the system down. If it is filthy, replace it.

The furnace door panel. Many furnaces will not run unless the front panel is seated properly.

If none of that brings the heat back, do not keep resetting the system. That is the moment to call a technician.

What Happens When You Call

A furnace repair should not be a mystery. When you call Aire One, a technician inspects the furnace to find the real cause, not just the symptom, then explains what is wrong and what it will cost before any work starts. Repairs are carried out by trained, bonded technicians using quality parts, so the fix holds. No surprises, no pressure, just heat back on.

A proper diagnosis first, a clear quote second, the repair third.

Because our trucks are stocked with common furnace parts, most repairs are completed on the first visit. And because dispatch runs around the clock, a furnace that quits on a Saturday night in Markham gets the same fast response as one that quits on a Tuesday morning.

Repair Now, or Prevent the Next One

The cheapest furnace repair is the one you never need. A yearly tune-up catches worn parts, dirty components and small faults before they strand you in the cold. If you are booking a repair now, ask about a maintenance plan at the same time so next winter starts on the right foot. From our Markham headquarters, Aire One handles furnaces and central heating, air conditioners and ductless systems, heat pumps, water heaters and tankless units, plus indoor air quality and maintenance plans.

We serve Markham and the surrounding communities, including Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Vaughan, Scarborough, North York and Toronto.

Choosing the right HVAC system for your home is crucial for ensuring comfort, efficiency, and cost savings. The professional and highly skilled team from Aire One is here to help with all your HVAC needs. Here are some key factors to consider when selecting the best HVAC system for your home:

Size of Your Home: The size of your home plays a significant role in determining the type and size of the HVAC system you need. An undersized system will struggle to maintain a comfortable temperature, while an oversized system will cycle on and off frequently, wasting energy and money.

Energy Efficiency: Look for HVAC systems with high energy efficiency ratings. Systems with a high Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) or Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) will save you money on your energy bills over time.

Climate Considerations: Your local climate influences the type of HVAC system you should choose. For instance, homes in colder climates may benefit from a heat pump or a furnace, while those in warmer regions might prefer an air conditioner or a ductless mini-split system.

Indoor Air Quality: Modern HVAC systems often include features that improve indoor air quality, such as advanced filtration systems, humidifiers, and dehumidifiers. These features can be particularly beneficial for households with allergy sufferers or respiratory conditions.

Smart Technology: Consider HVAC systems that are compatible with smart thermostats and home automation systems. These technologies allow you to control your HVAC system remotely, optimize energy usage, and maintain a comfortable home environment effortlessly.

Budget and Financing: HVAC systems can be a significant investment. Consider your budget and explore financing options that may be available to help you manage the cost.

By considering these factors, you can make an informed decision and choose an HVAC system that meets your home’s needs. For personalized advice and professional installation, trust the experienced team at Aire One to guide you through the process.

Because your HVAC unit provides comfort in inclement weather, prioritize its efficiency by scheduling periodic maintenance. A maintenance routine is critical for running your system smoothly and preventing malfunctions. An HVAC technician can detect and repair emerging problems by inspecting your air conditioning unit regularly. To stress the need for a yearly HVAC inspection, consider the following advantages.

Breakdown Prevention and Fewer Repair Costs
When you schedule an annual HVAC inspection, you reduce the chances of breakdowns or problems requiring expensive repairs. Service appointments range from $150 to $500 and could go even higher if you require any replacement parts. Yearly check-ups are often less than $100 and help to prevent problems from occurring.

Protect Your Warranty
When submitting a warranty repair claim, most manufacturers request documentation of yearly maintenance from a credible HVAC technician. Certain components of your HVAC system are costly so investing in a yearly maintenance schedule to keep it backed under warranty is a good decision.

Extend System Lifespan
Regular maintenance increases the lifespan of your system, lowering the possibility that you’ll have to spend a lot of money on HVAC installation anytime soon. It’s similar to how annual check-ups may help humans live longer; only your HVAC doctor comes to your house.

Protect Your Family
Regular maintenance prevents dust and other impurities from blocking your HVAC system. When you perform regular maintenance on your HVAC system, you protect your family from potentially dangerous impurities in your home’s air.

Increased Energy Efficiency
A well-functioning HVAC system, of course, implies cheaper utility expenses. If your system is clean and the parts are working properly, your HVAC system will not have to work as hard to cool the rooms in your house. Similarly, an expert HVAC technician can recalibrate your thermostat settings to guarantee optimal operation.

Maintain Optimum Comfort
You rely on your HVAC unit to keep your home comfortable all year. Maintaining your system annually allows it to create and distribute warm or cold air more uniformly and reliably. Regular maintenance from a licensed HVAC technician will also reduce the likelihood of HVAC sounds or odors interfering with your quality of life.

Would you like to make sure your HVAC system is as efficient as possible?

A limit switch also known as a fan limit is an electromechanical element that detects the temperature on a furnace. It is located under furnace’s supply plenum and tells the fans on the blower when to turn on and off.

A limit switch on a furnace uses gas or heating oil for power. The blower will turn on and off depending on the temperature. If it is starting to get too hot inside of the furnace, the switch will also be able to detect that and cut it off. Once an appropriate temperature has been reached inside of a home, the burners will turn off. However, the limit switches will continue to bring out as much heat as it can by blowing for a bit longer.

Over time, a problem may occur with the limit switch. Sometimes it can be something as small as the sensor on the switch becomes dirty. Once it gets dirty it will not work accordingly. The filter in the furnace may also become clogged which in turn will heighten the temperature. This will trigger the sensor to not act the proper way. Another issue you may encounter with the limit switch is that the blower motor may overhear and stop working.

It is important to keep your limit switch in a proper shape by scheduling the annual maintenance with Aire One, an experienced heating and cooling company, operating in Ontario for over 30 years.
When you don’t have HVAC annual maintenance done by professionals from Aire One, a heating and cooling company operating for over 30 year, lots of bad things can happen.

Let’s Talk About the Risks

As it happens sometimes, at the worst possible time your HVAC system could fail. You will be left shivering in the cold, or sweating in the heat. To say it is uncomfortable for everyone in your family would be an understatement.

The annual maintenance costs are minimal compared to how much it might cost to repair or replace the whole HVAC unit.

The inefficiency of your system will be compromised. What this means is your thermostat may labor to keep things operating properly. The system is stressed by things like inappropriate coolant levels, the inability to push air through the system efficiently, and more.

Repairs and replacements to your HVAC components are costly. The key to a long life for these systems is to have it inspected, cleaned, and components replaced when needed. Utility bills will be lower too.

Aire One as your heating and cooling company is your best friend when it comes to keeping everything working properly. It will also extend the time between repairs, and replacements.

What to Expect from the Heating and Cooling Company

Trained technicians will do several critical things when they arrive at your home. Their goal will be to extend the life of your HVAC system, and avoid its failure. The bonus is the technicians are going to make your home more comfortable too.

Your home will be cleaner after the professionals at Aire One have done their job. They will inspect and clean the filter, coil, and blower. Without this annual cleaning mold, mildew, germs, and just plain dirt will build up. This can lead to a dirtier home. You don’t want cleaning to be a bigger job because you failed to get an annual maintenance call from the heating and cooling company.

If you have not had your HVAC system maintenance done during the past year, it’s time to pick up the phone and call. Contact us today and have your HVAC system checked.

During the winter months, you depend on your furnace to keep your home comfortable and to keep you healthy. In turn, your furnace depends on you to make sure everything is working properly. A key component to look at is the furnace heat exchanger. If this breaks down, the consequences can be tragic.

What is a Furnace Heat Exchanger?

A furnace heat exchanger is a thin metal sheet that acts as a shield between the combustion chamber and the blower. The combustion chamber is a sealed chamber where fuel is ignited and mixed with air to make heat. This air, however, is full of flue gases, that can be dangerous to breathe. As the chamber heats the exchanger up on one side, the blower blows clean air across its surface on the other and distributes the heated air across your home.

Troubles With a Furnace Heat Exchanger

The biggest source of trouble is old age. After 10 years, the continuous expanding and contracting of the heat exchanger starts to make the metal more brittle. After 15-20 years, the metal will crack or snap, and the seal on the combustion chamber will be broken. This can potentially lead to carbon monoxide poisoning if there are also combustion issues. A professional from Aire One, a heating and cooling company operating in Ontario can tell you if there are signs of cracks.

How to Take Care of a Furnace Heat Exchanger

The first thing you should do is know when you need to replace your exchanger. When your exchanger reaches the 15-year mark, ask your technician about replacing it during your annual furnace tune-up. During your tune-up, the technician will examine the exchanger to see if it’s in working order. If not, don’t replace it yourself. If it isn’t installed by a professional, it could be scratched or cracked before you even use your furnace once.

Ultimately, it’s up to a licensed HVAC technician from a reputable heating and cooling company such as Aire One to determine your furnace heat exchanger’s condition. Contact us today to schedule a furnace tune-up and exchanger inspection.

Any heating and cooling company will tell you; a furnace air filter is critical to keeping your home clean and your hvac system operating properly. In the past the use of disposable air filters were the standard. Today, many families are choosing a washable furnace filter instead.

Get to Know Your Options

If you have been using the disposable type of air filter, you want to be educated about your options for a washable air filter. Just think about how it will feel to purchase one filter instead of having a stack of them stored in the garage, and replacing them every three month. Simply washing your new filter monthly will give your family more comfort and better health.

When you switch to a washable furnace filter you are not adding fiberglass, polyester, cardboard, or cotton to your landfill footprint. If you are environmentally conscious, considering a washable furnace filter may be no brainer. Aire One licensed technicians can discuss your options with you.

MERV Ratings

Select the proper MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating to fit your needs. The term MERV is an industry standard developed in 1987. The higher the number indicates the best level of filtration.

The MERV scale ranges from 1-16. It’s best to ask experts at Aire One, a heating and cooling company with over 30 years of experience, to give you advice about what is right for your home.

Cleaning Washable Furnace Filters

These “permanent” filters need to be cleaned regularly. For most people this means a monthly cleaning, but the American Lung Association says you must clean it every three months at a minimum.

Simply place the dirty filter on a level surface with the dirty side up. Vacuum carefully to pick up as much of the dirt, debris, and dust as you can. Take the vacuumed filter to a large utility sink or bathtub, and thoroughly wash with warm water. It can be helpful to use a sprayer to increase the water pressure. Do not use soap on the filter, and let it dry before returning to the furnace.

If you have any questions what type of filters are best for your furnace, contact us today.

When shopping for furnaces, homeowners will come across the terms one-stage and two-stage. This choice presents differences in purchasing, operating, and repair costs due to the way these furnaces work. Single-stage furnaces always operate at 100% power, while dual-stage furnaces can operate at 70% or 100% power.

The main benefit of a one-stage furnace is its price. Not only are these furnaces more affordable to purchase, but they are durable and less expensive to repair than two-stage furnaces. Two-stage furnaces have a higher cost due to the second heat exchanger and may cost more to repair; although, they are just as durable. Aire One, a heating and cooling company being in this industry for over 30 years, have experience with both types and is able to make repairs.

Because most one-stage furnaces have a blower that operates at max speed and volume, the furnace blows more cold air through the ducts than a two-stage furnace, which typically has a multi-speed blower that blows less forcefully before the furnace has fully heated up. For this reason, single-stage furnaces have a greater temperature variability. A one-stage furnace can swing up to 4 degrees while a two-stage furnace has temperature swings of only one or two degrees.

Another benefit of a two-stage furnace is its longer cycle, which enables the air in your home to be pulled through the furnace more frequently than with a one-stage furnace. Although this is not as effective as running an air purifier, it does remove more dust and debris from the air. The longer cycles also cause a humidifier that’s connected to the HVAC system run longer, producing a more comfortable indoor climate.

When it comes to efficiency, two-stage furnaces are more efficient. The longer cycle runs more consistently at lower power. These furnaces have efficiency ratings between 95% and 97%, while single-stage furnaces have slightly lower efficiency ratings of between 90% and 95%. This efficiency can make up the price difference over the life of the furnace.

If you’re unsure which type of furnace is right for you, licensed and factory trained professionals at Aire One can provide advice. Contact us today for more information.
