Common Problems With Electric Water Heaters

If you’re considering installing an electric water heater, then professionals at Aire One, a heating and cooling company operating all over Ontario, can help answer any questions about this type of unit. You may be switching from a gas water heater to an electric one, so it’s a good idea to know the differences between the two kinds of water heaters.

What Is An Electric Water Heater?

Electric water heaters are popular in many households due to their low installation costs, ease of operations and high energy efficiency. There are a variety of tank sizes including tankless, on-demand hot water heaters. An electric water heater simply runs on electricity instead of gas. The installation is fast since there are no gas lines to connect to.

How Does It Work?

The electric water heater is comprised of an upper and lower heating element controlled by their own thermostats. The upper portion is heated first with the lower level heated last. As the hot water leaves the tank, cold water replaces it by entering the lower level. While the hot water isn’t being used, the electric water heater will maintain a constant temperature by turning on at set intervals.

Common Problems With Electric Water Heaters

No Hot Water – if your tap water is running cold, it may be that your power is out. Check your circuit breaker first to ensure there’s electricity going to the tank. Otherwise, your heating element may be out, which will require a professional technicians from Aire One to replace it.

Water Isn’t Hot Enough – if your water is tepid, then you can try turning up the thermostat slightly to see if that resolves the issue. If this doesn’t work, then it could be a thermostat issue.

Sediment – sometimes minerals build up in your water heater’s tank, and it can cause problems for the lower heating element. Flushing your system is a proactive way to extend the life of your tank.

If your electric water heater needs to be checked, then contact Aire One for maintenance, repairs and installations to keep your water hot.
