How to Maintain Your Central Air Conditioning Unit

Summer is coming. Is your air conditioning unit ready? By using a good maintenance guide, you can make sure that your unit will be functioning when you need it. Following these tips will help you save money and time in the long term.

Maintenance Guide

  1. Cover the unit when it is not in use. A covering is a great idea to protect your unit from dirt and leaves during the winter. Just make sure you remove it again when spring and summer roll around.
  2. Check the sides of your unit. Once you remove the cover, take a close look at the fins on the side of your air conditioner. Since the fans are pulling in air and letting it flow over the coolant, these fans can also suck up dirt and debris that is going to lower efficiency. Clear out debris with a soft bristle brush to help the unit last longer.
  3. Look at the insulation around the refrigerant line. This insulation can degrade over time. The line needs to be kept cold to keep efficiency in your system. Repair the insulation over time as needed.
  4. Become familiar with your filter. You should be changing your air filter every 90 days. If you need any maintenance done on your air conditioner, Aire One Heating and Cooling, with locations all over Ontario, can help.
