Why Is My Furnace Not Turning On?

It’s the middle of winter and you wake up freezing cold to discover your furnace isn’t on. You attempt to turn it on, but it won’t budge. Why? Thermostat
Your furnace may not be turning on due to another system: your thermostat. It is possible that your thermostat may have reset, lost its programming, or be on an incorrect setting. Set your thermostat to heat and lower the temperature by 10-15 degrees to attempt to turn your furnace back on.

Blown Circuit Breaker
Your furnace requires power to run, if you have a blown circuit breaker this may be the reason why it is off. Check your home breaker box for a protentional blown circuit breaker, flip it back and forth and make sure it stays on the “on” position.

Dirty Air Filter
Many homeowners neglect changing their air filter within the required time frame which can result in many HVAC issues. Your furnace may not be turning on because your air filter is simply clogged. A safety feature in your furnace may prevent your furnace from turning on to avoid any damage. Make sure you are replacing your air filter 90 days to avoid running into this problem.

Blown Motor
Just as your car or computer can run into faults, so can your furnace. The reasons your furnace may not be turning on can be due to a blown motor. If this is the case, you will need an HVAC technician to inspect your furnace and provide any necessary repairs. If you believe your furnace motor is blown, contact us to have a certified technician from Aire One Heating and Cooling to assist you.
