Which Type of Air Conditioner is Best for Your Home?

Aire One Heating and Cooling, with locations all over Ontario, provide your home with an air conditioning system that suits your individual needs. An air conditioner is a device that cools the air inside of the home so that you are cool and comfortable. It uses a refrigeration cycle to lower the temperature while the warm air is directed outside. There are four types of air conditioners on the market to choose from. The one you pick depends on your home and personal preferences.

Window Air Conditioners
A window air conditioner fits into any single or double-hung window. This is perfect if your home doesn’t have existing ductwork. Most people choose window units for apartments without central AC or to cool off a single room in a larger house. This is your cheapest option, and you can install it yourself.

Portable Air Conditioners
Similar to a window unit, portable air conditioners work well in small spaces. They stand independently on the floor, and they work by pulling in the hot humid air to cool it and remove the moisture. The portable air conditioner vents the cool air back into the room and removes warm air through a hose leading out a window. This is a good option for homes that don’t include traditional windows. You install them yourself, and no heavy lifting is required.

Ductless Mini-Split Air Conditioners
Ductless mini-split air conditioner units are ideal for older homes that lack existing ductwork. The system includes a compressor located outside of the home and an indoor air-handling unit. This interior unit conveniently mounts to your wall or ceiling. A conduit through the wall connects the two pieces. Mini-ductless air conditioners should be professionally installed.

Central Air Conditioning
Central air conditioning systems use your existing ductwork to distribute the cool air evenly throughout the house. All components of the system are located outside, except for the air handler which is shared with your current furnace. They require professional installation from an HVAC professional in Ontario. Units such as the Carrier Infinity 24ANB7 and the Carrier Performance 24ACC6 are energy-efficient models that effectively cool the entire home.
